I cloth diaper my baby, and I love it! It is not as gross as the one answerer thinks, and you don’t have to handwash the diapers, as the other one answered.
But, it is obviously a little more work then throwing a diaper in the garbage.
This is basically how you clean cloth diapers:
If there is solid waste in the diaper, you need to get it into the toilet. I keep a spatula (that will never be used in the kitchen again haha) in the bathroom, which I use to scrape off any poop into the toilet. Since your daughter is older, I would guess her waste would be more solid, which would make it easier to "drop" into the toilet. I keep a container of Clorox wipes on the back of the toilet so I can wipe off the spatula if needed. And flush. 80)
If there is only urine in the diaper, you do not need to do anything extra.
You might want to get a washable laundry bag and a trash can. I use a kitchen size trash can. When the bag is full, dump everything (including the bag) into the washing machine. Select large load, and cold. The cold water will remove any leftover poop on the diapers. There is no need for soap yet. When this rinse cycle finishes, add an appropriate amount of laundry detergent, and wash on Hot. After that, dry the diapers in the dryer.
Fold and put away.

they are healthier for baby put a lot of work you have to hand wash, then wash again in the washing machine.
I use BumGenius 3.0 one size diapers. And sure it’s not the best thing in the world to clean diapers, but I wouldn’t consider it nasty. It’s something wonderful I do for my daughter, her health, her hygiene, and the environment.
Anyways…
To clean them, I separate the diapers and their liners, and throw them all in the washer. I can fit 24 diapers and their respective liners comfortable in the washing machine. You can only wash the diapers with certain detergents. A great one that I use is Allen’s Naturally. It lasts forever if you buy the large jug. Okay, you use a small amount of Allens Naturally and do a cold wash. Then you put a few drops of the blue Dawn dish detergent and do a hot wash (or warm) to remove any detergent residue. Then you do a cold wash. I Put my diapers and liners in the dryer with the laundry tabs fastened to not ruin the velcro. Mine has lasted me 7 months wonderfully so far. It really does pay off. I use two double liners in my diapers. They hold in A LOT of moisture, more than a disposable. In the long run, this really saves you money, especially if you plan on more children!
We never used disposable diapers after realising that we actually causing damage to the World in which our babies and their children would inherit.
With the thought of the millions of trees which are destroyed every year to make diapers and the realisation that every single one ever manufactured is still in existence in landfill sites (the plasticisers used in them do not rot) we decided to "do our bit" from day one.
I had terry towelling ones with small muslin liners.
Solids were shaken off down the WC and our laundry sink had a flexible nozzle fitted which partly cleaned any residue.
They I put them to soak in a lidded bucket with bleach.
At the end of the day, they just went into the washing machine.

Sweetie I have used both with all 3 of my girls. I found when they had really bad persistent nappy rash (usually from teething and getting the canine teeth or molars), a weekend in cloth nappies fixed it in no time at all. You do change cloth nappies more frequently because it is just cloth and no lock away moisture cell like disposables have. But both are effective and I think honestly, when you weigh up the costs of both, I think they would pretty much even out. You can buy disposables when on special if you find a good brand, usually safe to stick to a good brand you like when you find them. Cloth nappies are much the same, terry toweling and very soft on baby’s bottom. I use the nappy liners in them and often just throw the liner in a nappy sack bag and bin it. The cloth nappies if not soiled then get put straight into the machine and washed with a load of whites. Soiled one I soak overnight in Napisan and then washed as normal in the machine. it depends on the brand and the type, I suggest you buy a couple of trial packs from different brands to see what works for you.
to clean them you just flush any solids down the loo and put them through the washing machine on whichever cycle the manufacturer suggests or you prefer. you also have to check if there are specific detergents you cannot use with a given brand, and never use fabric softener when washing cloth nappies as it reduces the absorbancy of them.
I prefer the ones without inserts (laziness here- I don’t like the hassle of removing the boosters!) and I usually wash them using a reduced quantity of sensitive laundry detergent- my preferred brand is Earth Choice which may not be available where you are- I’ve heard its hard to get outside of Australia!

I don’t have to wash nappies too often- my baby hasn’t arrived yet so I usually only have to when babysitting over the weekend!
I would only use them if you have a lot of time, they are a lot of work.
I like them and they are good for your baby and the planet, I use them on my daughter when I have the time. You can buy thick or thin ones, the thin ones are good for potty training and the thick ones are almost as good as disposable diapers. Just don’t use fabric softener on them it messes them up.
Wash the diapers in very hot water using the baby variety detergent you may use bleach but must rinse a second time. You have to use vinal over pants. You can not dry these in the dryer. I found that they dont keep the wetness away from the babys skin. This makes for more frequent changes and risk for diaper rash. There are some newer types on the market that use velcro to fasten wich are a little nice but they are still messy if there is a dirty diaper. You have to rinse this out in the stool bye hand.
Cloth diapers are by far more cost effective. You can cloth diaper a baby for as little as $200 from birth to potty training. On the contrary, disposables will cost you $1500-$2500.
To wash cd’s: store in a "dry pail", do a rinse cycle with cold water, start a hot wash with an extra rinse. Hang to dry or dry on low-heat in dryer.
